Manchester City beget said they are "disquieted and appalled" after defender Joao Cancelo used to be assaulted at some stage in a burglary at his dwelling.

An announcement from the Premier League club said: "We are disquieted and appalled that Joao Cancelo and his household were subjected to a burglary at their dwelling this evening at some stage in which Joao used to be furthermore assaulted.

"Joao and his household are being supported by the club and he is helping the police with their enquiries as they compare this very extreme subject."

Addressing the incident on his Instagram legend, Cancelo wrote: "Sadly this day I was assaulted by four cowards who damage me and tried to damage my household.

"The largest factor for me is my household and fortunately they are all OK."
