In an announcement, Mersey Hearth & Rescue Carrier said: “Merseyside Hearth & Rescue Carrier is at the 2d in attendance at a building fire on the nook of Mount Good and Brownlow Hill in Liverpool City Centre.

“Crews were alerted at 01.38 am on Monday 4th October and on scene at 01.41am. Six fire engines are in attendance.

“The incident involves a four storey brick building, approx. 30 x 30m.”

A later change said: “Firefighting activities proceed at this colossal scale incident with 12 fire engines, 1 high quantity pump, and 1 aerial equipment in attendance.

“Merseyside Police are helping with traffic management and avenue closures. North West Ambulance Carrier are also in attendance on standby.
