Injuries steal toll as Bucs gather blanked, fail to clinch
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Tampa Bay coach Bruce Arians had bigger issues Sunday evening than the Buccaneers failing to clinch their first division title since 2007.
The checklist of gamers injured in a 9-0 loss to the Fresh Orleans Saints integrated broad receivers Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, and working help Leonard Fournette.
“It hurts more losing the total gamers we misplaced,” Arians acknowledged. “We misplaced about seven starters in this sport.”
Godwin (knee) and Evans (hamstring) left in the 2d quarter. Fournette (hamstring) exited in the third.
“A name of men obtained banged up tonight but that’s segment of football,” quarterback Tom Brady acknowledged. “So, obtained to strive and determine who can inch in and accept as true with in some roles and play huge football.”
Bucs linebacker Lavonte David also left after injuring his foot.
Arians had no postgame updates on the injuries.
Fresh Orleans (7-7) beat the Bucs (10-4) for the seventh straight time for the duration of the regular season — fourth since Brady left Fresh England for Tampa Bay in 2020.
“They’ve obtained a terribly true defense, if truth be told true procedure, tricky to head in opposition to,” acknowledged Brady, who threw a tablet to the bottom in frustration whereas sitting on the bench unhurried in the sport.
The Bucs, who did prefer a playoff sport at Fresh Orleans final January en route to their Broad Bowl title, lead the NFC South by three games with three weeks last in the regular season.
Fresh Orleans shut down the NFL’s No. 1 passing and scoring offense, and ended Brady’s trip of 255 consecutive begins (alongside side playoff games) without being shut out.

Tampa Bay outgained the Saints 302-212. Fresh Orleans had correct 11 first downs and used to be 3 of 18 (18.8%) on third-down conversions.
But three field goals by Brett Maher supplied the margin of victory for the Saints.
The Buccaneers will gather some reinforcements for next Sunday’s sport at Carolina. Broad receiver Antonio Brown and safety Mike Edwards both served the last sport of three-sport suspensions Sunday for the use of pretend COVID-19 vaccination playing cards.
Arians acknowledged the personnel is welcoming the pair help.
“It’s in the finest passion of our football personnel,” Arians acknowledged. “Each and every these guys accept as true with served their time.”
NOTES: Bucs S Jordan Whitehead returned to the lineup after lacking two games, but S Antoine Winfield Jr. (foot), CB Jamel Dean (illness) and CB Richard Sherman (Achilles) had been slothful. ... Fournette led the Bucs with seven receptions for 33 yards. Godwin had six catches for 49 yards.
